PLAYER

--WR Donnie Avery was expected to be back on the practice field Monday after missing two weeks of practice because of a cracked pelvic bone.

--LB Will Witherspoon suffered a bruised shoulder in practice against Tennessee, but the injury is not considered serious. Witherspoon did not start in the preseason opener against the Titans.

--LB Tim McGarigle started in the middle against Tennessee with Will Witherspoon sidelined by a shoulder injury. McGarigle is in a battle with rookie Marc Magro for a roster spot. McGarigle played most of the first half.

--FS Oshiomogho Atogwe remains sidelined by a hamstring that he injured in the first week of training camp.

--CB Justin King suffered a torn ligament in his against Tennessee, and is out for the season. He will have surgery on the toe.

--OT Brandon Gorin suffered a shoulder injury against Tennessee and will likely miss about two weeks.

BATTLE FRONTS: Dan Kreider vs. Russ Weil at fullback. Kreider has the experience after playing for the Steelers, while Weil is a rookie free agent, but he has impressed with his toughness and blocking ability ... Bruce Gradkowski vs. Brock Berlin for the third quarterback. Berlin was poised and helped put points on the board in the second quarter against the Titans Saturday. He ended up with a passer rating of 108.0 after completing 11 of 14 passes. Said coach Scott Linehan, "He played very well and very efficient. I have seen him do that for a lot of years. I really like him and he's always been really good in those two-minute situations like he was the other night. I thought he looked very poised and bought some time avoiding the rush a few times and made some nice plays. He just looked very much under control. That's what you want to see. I see an improved player from the time he first came into the league. He has really worked on his game. I was really happy with him."

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: WR Dane Looker - Some were counting Looker out because he won't be holding for kicks anymore, but the versatile receiver just quietly goes about his business and rarely makes a mistake. "Dane is Dane," coach Scott Linehan said. "I don't know any other way to describe him. The guy just knows every position. He could kick if we had to. He could punt if we had to. I mean, there's really no limit to the guy's value. He's doing a great job in the receiver spot, handling all the positions and basically being ready to step in wherever needed." To those seemingly trying to replace him, Linehan said, "I'm sure he's got a little of bit Rodney Dangerfield kind of feeling sometimes. You know sometimes you get labeled a utility man or whatever, a holder. I mean Dane is everything. He's just a really, really good football player." Looker led the Rams with four receptions for 73 yards against Tennessee, including a 47-yard play that led to the team's only touchdown of the game.

ROOKIE REPORT: First-round pick Chris Long started at right defensive end against Tennessee, but had no tackles, according to press box statistics. The Titans ran a lot up the middle. Long played some snaps at left end. ... OL John Greco didn't play until the second half, and he was with the third unit at right guard. That's partly because Mark Setterstrom's earlier knee injury has him playing with the second team. ... WR Keenan Burton (fourth round) made his debut against Tennessee, but did not have a reception. ... OG Roy Schuening (fifth round) was at left guard with the second team. ... Seventh-round LBs Chris Chamberlain and David Vobora played extensively with the second unit. According to coach Scott Linehan, Chamberlain "was probably the most productive in this particular game, and he showed really good coverage ability. He'll be a good space player and matches up well in those regular personnel groupings."

INJURY REPORT: OT Brandon Gorin suffered a shoulder injury against Tennessee and will be out about two weeks. ... CB Justin King suffered a torn ligament in his against the Titans and is out for the season. He will have surgery. ... WR Donnie Avery is expected to return to practice Monday after missing two weeks with an injury to his pelvic bone. ... Not playing against Tennessee were LB Will Witherspoon (shoulder), DE Victor Adeyanju (finger), safety Oshiomogho Atogwe (hamstring), tight end Anthony Becht (hamstring) and cornerback Fakhir Brown (shoulder).
