--Rookie John Greco will start at left guard if Jacob Bell is unable to play Sunday against the Falcons because of a hamstring injury.
Greco played against the 49ers when Bell was injured and struggled, especially late in the game. He missed blocks on a fourth-quarter sack of quarterback Marc Bulger and an ill-fated draw play to running back Steven Jackson in the final minute of the game.
When asked how Greco played, coach Jim Haslett said, "Not as well as you would have liked. He struggled in the last couple of series and it hurt us a little bit. If you are going to play young guys then you will have to deal with the growing pains. If he would have picked up his man (on the draw), then it would have been a pretty good play. He struggled down the stretch."
Asked about how Greco has responded after Sunday's problems, Haslett said, "I talked to him and he will be fine. He is a young kid and he has a ways to go. He is going to be a good player. With his mass and size and athleticism, once he understands what you want out of him in the game, I think he will be a pretty good player."
Greco said, "I'll be excited if I start and it will be a good opportunity. I was disappointed on a couple of plays at the end of the game. Maybe I lost some focus. I know I have to get better."
There has been some discussion of trying Greco at center in the offseason. He has worked some at the position in Friday practices. "If that's what they want, I'll do it," he said.
--The Rams have a number of players over 30, but coach Jim Haslett believes there is also a foundation of good younger players that can help turn things around.
"I think that you can," he said, when asked about making a turnaround in one season. "I think you have to have the right players in the mix and you have to know the problem areas. This team can be fixed because you have a good nucleus of young players on this team. They are good football players and they are only going to get better.
"Look at the defensive line; you have Victor Adeyanju, who is in his third year. Adam Carriker and Cliff Ryan, who are in their second year and Chris Long in his first. Those are four guys across the board with a total of eight years of experience. That is a pretty good group to build off of and that is just one area. There are other areas as well."
--The Rams made an early announcement that ticket prices will stay the same for the second consecutive year in 2009.
Said Bob Wallace, the team's executive vice president and general counsel, "We are sensitive to our fans and the choices that they have to make for the entertainment dollar. It's clear that the economy's going through a tough stretch right now. People are having to make choices. We don't want to add to that burden, so we've decided for our loyal fans - they have been great fans - to freeze prices."
Wallace acknowledged making the announcement also was related to the team's disappointing play the last two seasons.
"Obviously, it's a lot better to come off a very, very successful season than it is to come off a season that we're all disappointed in," Wallace said. "Combine that with a tough economy and, yes, we are concerned about the renewals."
BY THE NUMBERS: 434 -- Points allowed by the Rams this season. Only one team (Detroit, 486) has allowed more.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I told them that we have nothing to lose and this team is playing for the (division) championship. Let's go out and be the spoiler. Let's go out there and put on our best performance and lay it out on the line. We have nothing to lose, so let's go out and play hard and we will see what happens." -- Coach Jim Haslett on the team's approach to the season finale against the Falcons.
