St. Louis Rams Notes, Quotes 2008-12-18
--Players voted on team awards and elected safety Oshiomogho Atogwe Most Valuable Player, wide receiver Donnie Avery Rookie of the Year and safety Corey Chavous received the Carl Ekern Spirit of the Game Award.

Said coach Jim Haslett, "I think they hit it right on the head. I thought OJ (Atogwe) had a great year again. It was a shame that he didn't get a couple more interceptions because I do think that OJ's a Pro Bowl-type player and has been for the last couple years.

"Donnie Avery that was a close one, him and Chris (Long), were almost neck-and-neck in votes with the players. Donnie did a nice job all year, he was really fighting through the hip injury he's still going through it now, so I was proud of Donnie. Then, Corey's the ultimate. Corey is a guy that probably spends more time studying football, preparing, watching film than anybody I've ever been around. I thought all three of those award winners were well deserving."

Said Atogwe, "To be selected by your peers says a lot. It's very humbling."

Avery said, "It means a lot. It shows that I have gained the respect of my teammates because those are the guys who voted for me. Just to know that I have their respect means a lot to me."

--For the second straight week, the game will be blacked out in St. Louis, unless 7,000 tickets are sold by the noon deadline Thursday.

Asked about the team's struggles at home, coach Jim Haslett said, "It's been a frustrating season overall. I think the most important thing is that our guys are prepared. We'll prepare well to play the game and we just have to go out and take care of business. First of all, we have to take care of the football. That's the No. 1 thing which we haven't been doing a very good job of. We can do that. It's going to be a physical game. It's going to be a hard fought game for 60 minutes and if we can do the things that we're supposed to do, we'll have an opportunity to win the game.

"If we can do that, maybe we can build on something in the last two games. I like to be the spoiler. If we can win this and then have a chance going against Atlanta, we'll see. Our guys are prepared, they practiced well today. They prepare well in the classroom. We just have to take it to the field."

--QB Marc Bulger on the impact Mike Martz had on his career: "I am very appreciative. He thought me 99-percent of the things I know about how to play quarterback in the NFL. He is a great coach. He gave me an opportunity and I will be forever grateful for what he taught me. The things that you did not realize at the time about being a quarterback that I appreciate now and I will appreciate more as I have gotten older."

BY THE NUMBERS: 2-13 -- The Rams' home record over the last two seasons. Their only victories were over Atlanta last season and Dallas this year.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Believe me guys are playing for him. We wanted to win five weeks ago and we wanted to win last week but we just haven't been able to get it done. If we can win these last two it would be great and it starts with San Francisco. We are playing for him and we are pulling for him and we are trying to get those two wins for him." -- QB Marc Bulger on the team trying to win for coach Jim Haslett.
