St. Louis Rams Notes, Quotes 2008-10-09
Coach Jim Haslett is still hopeful of re-signing cornerback Fakhir Brown, who was released Oct. 1. Said Haslett, "It wasn't my decision (to release him), but obviously I lived with it. I think that if we could get him back, that is the most important thing because I would like to have five corners."

Currently, the Rams' corners are Ron Bartell, Jason Craft, Ricky Manning and Jonathan Wade. Tye Hill is out because of a knee injury. Craft and Bartell will start, with Manning entering the game in the nickel defense.

Brown's agent is trying to get him a one-year contract at the minimum salary of $730,000 in addition to the termination pay he is eligible for from the Rams for being on the roster on opening day. Players are only eligible for termination once in their career, but one week has to pass from the time of the release in order for the player to be re-signed. The Rams are reportedly willing to pay Brown the extra money, which comes to just under $43,000 a week, but so far there hasn't been an agreement.

Brown's agent, Ted Marchibroda Jr., has been claiming other teams are interested, but thus far, Brown has had no tryouts or visits elsewhere. It is also unlikely he would start with a new team, and there would be no guarantee he would stay with a new team for the remainder of the season. The longer Brown stays out also can affect him after he didn't practice for all of training camp because of a shoulder injury.

--Redskins coach Jim Zorn was asked if he thinks Jim Haslett can spark the Rams. Zorn said, "Well, I know he is a very good head coach and I know it is very difficult to take over with the circumstances but he is going to pay attention to detail, he is going to be very aggressive. I know he loves what he is doing there, I think he is a tremendous leader and he is easy to talk to, so he can relate very well with the players. Everybody will respond to him and under the difficult circumstances he is going to make the best out of it."

--Zorn was also asked if he thinks the Rams are more dangerous because they had a coaching change and are looking for their first win: "I don't even think they're more dangerous because of their record I just think they're dangerous period, honestly. When you watch them play and if you didn't look at the end result, the score at the end of the game and you think this is a very, very good football team and I have a tremendous amount of respect for them. I had faced them as an assistant coach in Seattle for seven years, so I know what's there, it's not any surprise and so I don't think we're taking this game as, 'Let's look at the record so we can just sort of enjoy this'. It's a matter of not looking at the record and just looking at the video that's all; you see good athletes."

BY THE NUMBERS: 11-3 -- Combined record of the Rams' next three opponents: Washington, Dallas and New England.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "No, I can't call plays. I can't even get it out of my mouth. Zip right, zoom, nine, 22, no, can't do it." -- Coach Jim Haslett, asked if he is picking up the verbiage of the offense.
