St. Louis Rams Notes, Quotes 2008-09-10
--Prior to completing all four of his passes for 63 yards on the final possession, quarterback Marc Bulger was 10-for-22 for 95 yards. Bulger rarely found his wide receivers: Dane Looker (1-21), Torry Holt (1-9), Dante Hall (3-13) and Bennett (1-4) combined for just 47 yards on six catches. McMichael's 77 yards accounted for 46.4 percent of the team's total offense. Hall lost four yards on a run and totaled just 90 yards (18.0-yard average) on five kickoff returns.

--The Rams had six third-down plays of 10 yards or more: 10, 11, 15, 16, 18 and 21. The Eagles had two third-down plays of 10 yards or more (10, 12). On second down, the Rams had an astounding 13 plays (they only had 45 plays in the entire game) with nine yards to go or more: 9 (2 times), 10 (3), 11 (2), 14 (2), 16 (3), 21 (1).

Third-down success (or failure) is often created by first-down yardage. The Eagles averaged 6.9 yards on 26 first-down plays. Donovan McNabb was 11-for-16 for 143 yards on first down. The Rams averaged 5.3 yards on first downs, but that is skewed by two first-down passes for 52 yards on their final possession. Prior to that, the Rams averaged 3.4 yards on 16 first-down plays (54 yards total) and Bulger was 3-for-6 for 36 yards on first down.

--CB Fakhir Brown started out playing in the nickel, but then replaced Tye Hill in the base defense after Hill was burned for two long pass plays. Hill then played in the nickel. It was Brown's first game action since injuring his shoulder in the first practice of training camp.

Said Brown, "It turned out pretty good. I didn't have to make any hard contact on it."

As for Hill, who was victimized by a 47-yard pass to DeSean Jackson and a 52-yarder to Greg Lewis, "I guess I've got to work myself back to where I need to be. That's motivating for me."

--WR Torry Holt didn't officially start the game because the Rams had three tight ends on the field, and he managed just once reception all day for nine yards. He hadn't been limited to that few receptions since a game against the Dolphins in 2004.

Said QB Marc Bulger, "They doubled him a lot and singled up our (flanker) a lot. And once Drew (Bennett) got hurt, they stayed in that."

--A back-breaking 90-yard touchdown pass from McNabb to Hank Baskett came with the Rams blitzing on a third-and-8 play that began with 1:00 remaining in the first half and the Eagles leading 14-0. Baskett was open at the left sideline and then safety Corey Chavous missed the tackle near midfield.

Said cornerback Ron Bartell, who was blitzing on the play, "They had the perfect call for what we were running.

"They got on us early, but I thought we'd done a good job of stalling them on the next couple of drives. To have them backed up and for them to get that big one, I think that really gave them momentum going into the half."

"It was all on me," Chavous said of his missed tackle. "Some of the plays they made, we can't give them up. It's just that simple."

--WR Drew Bennett suffered a fractured bone in his left foot against Philadelphia and will miss at least six weeks. Bennett will not have surgery and for the time being won't be placed on injured reserve.

--WR Keenan Burton, the team's fourth-round pick, is first in line to be the starter at the position vacated by the injury to Drew Bennett. Burton could share time with Dane Looker.

--WR Dane Looker could see more playing time with Drew Bennett out with a broken bone in his foot. Looker will likely share time with rookie Keenan Burton.

--LB David Vobora was placed on waivers by the Rams Monday. Vobora's release is likely a move to clear a roster spot for a wide receiver that could be signed Tuesday.

--DE Leonard Little has a strained hamstring and will be evaluated Wednesday when the Rams return to practice. Club sources indicate he could miss two games.

--LG Jacob Bell suffered a strained hamstring against the Eagles and will be evaluated Wednesday.

--DE Chris Long suffered a fractured right pinky finger against the Eagles, but isn't expected to miss any time.

--P Donnie Jones bruised his right knee trying to make a tackle on a punt return. However, swelling was down Monday.

--WR Donnie Avery, who was inactive Sunday because of a MCL strain in his knee, could miss another game. His status will be evaluated at the end of the week.
