St. Louis Rams Notes, Quotes 2009-05-08
--The Rams made two roster moves since the end of their minicamp, which took place May 1-3.

Wide receiver Tim Carter, who participated in the minicamp on a tryout basis, was signed to a one-year contract. Originally a second-round pick of the Giants, Carter was traded to Cleveland in 2007, and then signed with Houston in 2008 as an unrestricted free agent.

He was released by the Texans in the final cut last summer and did not play at all during the 2008 season.

The Rams also traded running back Brian Leonard to the Cincinnati Bengals for defensive tackle Orien Harris.

A second-round pick in 2007, Leonard was caught between being a running back and fullback, and experienced several shoulder injuries.

Harris entered the league as a fourth-round pick with Pittsburgh in 2006, and the Bengals acquired him on waivers from New Orleans last August. He played 14 games for the Bengals, starting one, and had 24 tackles.

Said coach Steve Spagnuolo, "We feel Orien is a good addition to our roster. This move allows us to add more depth to our defensive line rotation."

--QB Kyle Boller missed the 2008 season because of a shoulder injury, but he says everything is fine now. He reported no problems at the team's recent minicamp.

"The shoulder's great, 100 percent," he said. "It feels probably more strong than it did before, just having to do all the rehab stuff with it."

As for getting a chance with the Rams after being Baltimore's first-round pick in 2003, Boller said, "I really don't think I was ready to play the game when I was younger. But now that I've been in the NFL for a little bit now and I've learned a lot about defenses and that kind of stuff, I'm just excited about a fresh start."

--WR Derek Stanley did not participate in minicamp as he recovers from knee surgery, and coach Steve Spagnuolo said Stanley is getting antsy.

"I can tell you this, he's itching to go," Spagnuolo said. "He was all over me this morning, but we want to be a little bit careful. I don't know that he'll do any of the team work throughout this spring, or at least that was initial indication. If we can get him in there a little bit with individual, we're going to do that."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We're kind of learning together. (He) was in the same offense as me last year, so we're kind of switching over our knowledge from last year to this year. It's helping the learning process, I think." -- QB Marc Bulger on learning the team's new offense with new backup Kyle Boller.
