The 38-year-old Green, a two-time Pro Bowl pick, was in his second stint with the Rams. He played in three games last season, completing 38 of 72 passes for 525 yards with no touchdowns and six interceptions.

Bennett signed a six-year, $30 million deal two years ago after six seasons with the Titans. But he struggled in 2007 and broke his leg in the Rams' opening series of the season's opener, missing the remainder of the season.

The release of Green is expected to save the Rams about $1.3 million in salary cap space. The team saves $50,000 by cutting Bennett.

Green started one game last season after Marc Bulger was benched, a 31-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills that dropped the Rams to 0-4 and also was the final game for coach Scott Linehan. He returned to the backup role after Jim Haslett was hired as the interim coach.

Green was supposed to have been the starting quarterback in 1999, the season the Rams won the Super Bowl. He was sidelined by a knee injury in the preseason, opening the door for then-unknown backup Kurt Warner.

Bennett was injured on a 4-yard reception in a 38-3 opening loss at Philadelphia. The Rams placed him on injured reserve in early November after he experienced difficulty in his rehab.

Bennett signed with the Rams a year after he led the Titans with 46 receptions with a 16-yard average in 2006. The Rams chose Bennett over Kevin Curtis, who signed a free agent deal with the Eagles.

He caught 33 passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns in 2007.
