Dolphins: Talking points
Dolphins lose another starter to injury: For the second week in a row the Dolphins lost a key starter on offense to a season-ending injury. Guard Justin Smiley, the Dolphins' top offensive lineman, suffered a broken right leg when a Rams defender rolled up on it during the first quarter of Sunday's 16-12 win at St. Louis. "It was a bummer. Kind of depressing," Smiley said. "It happens 100 times throughout the season and you [usually] come out unscathed. This one they caught me just right." During last week's loss to the Patriots, Greg Camarillo, the team's leading receiver, suffered a season-ending knee injury trying to tackle a Patriots defender after an interception. Smiley will likely have a pin inserted in the leg, which broke near the ankle. He would become the fourth Dolphin placed on injured reserve. Andy Alleman, who had spent the past three games sharing snaps with Ikechuku Ndukwe at right guard, replaced Smiley at left guard. He allowed two pressures and was called for a false start. The Dolphins signed free-agent C Al Johnson on Saturday, adding depth to the offensive line. OL Brandon Frye was claimed off the Texans practice squad earlier this month.

Porter shut out: Joey Porter's iPod, playing a continual loop of Tupac's "Me Against the World," provided the musical backdrop in the locker room after the game. The defiant song could accurately depict how Porter has been feeling lately on and off the field. Porter, who was fined $7,500 by the NFL last week and criticized for disobeying his coaches' orders to leave the field in last Sunday's loss to the Patriots, is on a self-imposed gag order, denying all interview requests. Rams Pro Bowl LT Orlando Pace, getting constant help from tight ends and backs in the blocking schemes, denied Porter access to the quarterback. As a result, Porter's nine-game streak of recording at least a half-sack ended. Porter, who has 141/2 sacks, recorded just one tackle Sunday. He trails Dallas' DeMarcus Ware by a half-sack for the NFL lead. This was the first game all season Miami didn't register a sack.
